The chickens are raised on real farms in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country. They feed chickens the old fashion way – without antibiotics, hormones, or steroids – just all natural vegetable-based feed. It does! What makes Gerber Chicken unique, juicy and delicious is all about how the chickens are raised. When I first found out that Acme Fresh Market carried Gerber’s Amish Farm Chicken from Ohio’s Amish Country years ago, I was so excited! I had to try it to see if it taste as good as “Amish Country chicken”. You get what you work for. When you think of Amish Country, what do you think of? I think of buggies, rolling hills, and chicken! Maybe not in that order! Nothing beats chicken from Amish Country, it just tastes better. It's also very cold, but you can always go outside on your breaks, of which you get plenty of paid breaks for the number of hours you work a day. The hardest part of the job is long lines of people and long hours standing on your feet. Management is awesome and very kind and considerate of needs, as well as very flexible with schedules. It's very active and you'll never be bored, especially during the summer when tourists and vacationers come through for their travels. I only worked here for a summer, but if I'd go back I would reccommend working as cashier here during the summer.

I was baggin groceries and working at the cash register which does take some getting used to if you've never worked a cash register, but it's very simple once yo uget the hang of it.Īlthough its a grocery store and it's (obviously) cold sometimes, they provide you with the option of a longsleeve company shirt as well as jacket. Working part-time during the summer was great! The staff was very kind, helpful and encouraging, as well as very easy to get along with. I would have rather not have a union and just have a standard raise/wage scale like non-union companies have. but the union that you pay each week did not seem to try to fight for higher wages. My time working there, the pay was extremely low in comparison to other businesses that were hiring - so it was hard to maintain help. It is pointless for those not seeking career positions to have to be a part of a union that does nothing for them. But keep in mind you could be sent to any of their stores, even if it is far away from where you live. Company does not seem to care that many 40+ aged customers liked having grocery packers as it makes the check-out process go faster.įew full-timers. Started out as a grocery packer, but that job is basically now non-existent. Cashiering was easy but if you needed help on register, the front desk often acted like you were bothering them. They can be quite stingy with the hours, and you may have to - more.

One positive thing to note is that management is usually pretty flexible with scheduling, so if your in school or you have another job there shouldn't be a problem. But other than that the union dues are just a waste of money. I've seen people accused of everything from stealing to harassment get second chances at their jobs. You do get some bare bones benefits from the Union, skimpy insurance, a pension, etc, and if you happen to make a big time mistake and your job is on the line, the union usually has your back.

Considering they are part of a major grocery and retail union I would think the pay would be better, especially when employees have union dues deducted from their already small pay checks. But once you move thru all the brackets of pay, it's just just the one raise a year, really?. And the raises were something like an 15 cents an hour once a year, if your new you'll get a raise more frequently as you move thru each bracket of pay, depending on your job classification, some go on hours you've worked, other how many months you've worked. I'm not sure about currently, but when I left almost 2 years ago, they were only hiring in at part time minimum wage. Expect to work plenty of nights, weekends, and holidays. I'd say it's suitable for a young student who needs to learn some some basic employment skills, anyone who just wants a little extra spending money, or a retiree that just needs to get out of the house. What do I say? This is your typical low wage work your self silly service job.
